                    Hi,
just wanting some techie advice please.
Recently bought some RW dvds for us and my mum, she has a -recorder and we have a +recorder, we got a pack each of 'Verbatum' as we had been advised that they are a reliable brand, from currys.
In the confusion between what was a CD, DVD, -,+, R,and RW, (they all look the same and were randomly stacked!!)we did not notice until we got home that the neg pack cost £11.99 and the pos pack cost £5.99!! they were both the same size pack, (10) and the same brand.
Is it usual that neg RW are twice as expensive as posRW discs? Im wondering if pos recording discs are cheaper to produce, or more popular. or if they were mispriced, perhaps the higher price actually being for a pack of twenty?
Dont want to show my ignorance and go back to Currys unless im a bit better informed, can anyone advise me please??

I buy quite a few discs and I find that the price of - and + is about the same with + discs possibly costing a little bit more. Obviously RW costs a lot more than ordinary R discs. (make sure your more expensive ones are not RW's).
At SVP where I usually buy my Verbatim 16x DVDR (Taiyo Yuden) discs both the - & + cost £9.99 for 50.
Make sure your + and - are exactly the same otherwise as there are loads of variations in discsI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0

No, the minus/dash format are usually slightly cheaper than the plus format.
The - format is the official format and the + format the Philips led version.
There are two reason for the price difference.
 1) Currys had an offer on the + discs
 or
 2) The + discs you have are no rewritable, but just once record only - recordable. The problem is the + forum decided on using a logo for their version as RW, so even if they are only write once +R they still have the +RW logo on them, you have to look closely at the disc / case / box and check if they also say usually in smaller print +R recordable or they save +RW re-writable.
With the official - format, they use the DVD logo and then either -R for for recordable (write once) or -RW for re-writeable or -RAM for RAM discs.

Thanks for your replies! How flipping confusing!
Have checked and both are def RW, they have the left hand symbol on bextechs post, I'll check when I next go in currys, and take my reciept with me I think.
Cant get your link to work bextech. At least it sounds like I got the + ones cheaper, rather than the - ones overpriced.
 Thanks.0

If you can get onto the SVP website, they sell blank discs, you'll see you can get -RW discs from 25p each - no jewel case - spindle pack of 10 and from 33p in jewel cases - boxed in pack of 10.
DVD+RWs from 30p each - no jewel case - spindle pack of 10 and from 46p in slimline jewel case - boxed in pack of 10.
