Failed MOT - don't need to drive do I SORN?

Hello,
Wondering if anyone can help, I've tried google and I'm baffled. Car has just failed MOT on a headlight thing. Garage say need to contact a main dealership as it may need a specific part but they are not sure which bit. Main dealerships mostly closed due to current CV situation. Car is at home and not parked on road.

I'm conscious that I'm supposed to get it fixed within 10 working days, but this might be a problem due to everywhere being closed. I don't need to drive the car as have access to and am insured on husbands car. Obviously I'll not drive my car anywhere as it's failed the MOT and I'll continue trying to get hold of someone at a Mazda garage in the next few days, but what if I can't get it sorted in the 10 days? Can I just leave it on the drive until I can get to a Mazda garage, get it fixed and get MOT? Or do I need to do a SORN thing?

Insurance is paid annually, so I won't be stopping that or anything and ordinarily I would get the car fixed ASAP, but it's proving really difficult!
Very grateful for any help here!

SORN is a way of not paying the tax while it's off the road - complete months only, so you've missed May.

If it's not got an MOT, it can still be taxed, so there's no NEED to SORN it, and if you wanted to get it back on the road this month you'd just end up paying for May twice.

The 10 day window is just to get a reduction in the fee for the retest.

Many thanks AdrianC - so I'm ok to leave on drive and not take it anywhere until I can get it to the main dealer - and it doesn't matter how long that takes? I just don't want to be breaking any laws!

As long as your insurance doesn't expire you don't need to SORN it, unless you need to renew the tax, which you can't without a valid MOT.

But do you actually have a valid MOT?- if it expired in April before you had it tested it will have been extended, and a failure doesn't cancel a valid MOT
I don't know what happens if you fail an MOT before the extension applies though- it ought to just extend the expiry date of the old one.

Check on https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status what your expiry date is.

You can't drive the car until it is fixed, as it will be unroadworthy, but still having a valid MOT and being roadworthy are not the same thing.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

What's the reason for failure on the print out?

It may be unroadworthy. Without knowing exactly what the vehicle failed on it's impossible to know. It could be something as simple as a headlamp reflector being slightly damaged, something that is a minor failure.
If any failure automatically made a vehicle unroadworthy, you would never legally be allowed to drive away after a test and before getting a repair carried out.

It was due in first week of May. Failure was due to 'position lamp not working nearside front and also for offside front'. Guy in MoT place said to check for vehicle recalls, which I've done although can see that same model has had issues with same thing in the US.
I've checked the gov website and it says it's not due till November. I'm so confused. Tax isn't due till September. Like I said above, I've no intention of driving it, apart from to a garage as and when I can get through to them, explain the situation and get it fixed. I just wanted to know if I needed to do something in the next 10 working days as the guy in the garage was confusing me.

If you don't get it retested within 10 days you will have to pay for another full MOT.

You didn't need to get it MOT'd, if the expiry was on or after 30th March, the government extended it by 6 months for you. Hence why it's showing as November. But now you've been notified it's not roadworthy, that's a different matter.
