Retrieving old WhatsApp messages

Hi, wonder if someone can help please. I have some WhatsApp messages from an old device / sim I'm trying to retrieve, is there a way of doing this?

Basically, I currently have a mate 10 pro, prior to this, I had a Google nexus 7, or a couple of these (now sold).

I probably changed number a few years ago too.

Normally, or at least, now, I use an transfer app which moves data across.

So, anyway, with my phone, which I've had since last year, I have what app messages going back saved from around 2016.

I want to get hold of some from 2014/15 when I had an old device and number.

I believe I still have the old sim.

Is there a way in my phone or laptop to retrieve messages from an old number, without deleting the current messages?
