Received Furlough with a 2nd job

Hello,

I have been working for an agency as a PAYE worker since January 2020. The last day that I worked for them was Friday 13th March due to being ill the following week and then since 20th March our industry has been shut down. I applied for my employers Furlough scheme and my money was based upon my average monthly earnings from them. Yesterday, I received 4 backdated furlough payslips and received the money today.

At the end of March, I began a second job working for a company abroad in a non-EU country. I have been working remotely from the UK and have been paid for this job at the end of April. Due to travel restrictions, I am unlikely to be able to travel to the destination until the end of August which would mean that should my PAYE industry reopen in the next few weeks, I could continue to pick up shifts with them as and when. I am working FT for the abroad company but finish by 12ish UK time and have Friday’s off so am available to work for the PAYE agency. But my point is, I am worried that I am not allowed to have my Furlough from my PAYE job as I have another job. I have read every government guideline which says you can have additional work to your furlough job. So I’m sure I’m worrying over nothing but just wanted an opinion/advice.

I had posted a similar post on Facebook to be rudely told that I shouldn’t get furlough if I have another job. If you think this then please keep it to yourself as I am posting anonymously and you don’t know my personal or financial situation. You also don’t know how much I earn from either jobs.

i just want to know people’s thoughts on whether it’s okay to be furloughed by one place and work for another company. Thanks

So long as the two employers are not linked to, or associated with, each other, there is nothing stopping you being furloughed in one job and working in another, so long as the contracts of employment permit.
