Hi, I am looking some advice.  We are booked to on a bus trip to London in August from Northern Ireland.  I have paid the deposit and the balance is due next week.  The travel agent is saying that if we do not pay the balance on time we will loose our £400 deposit.  I have asked if we could transfer onto another trip next year or to another holiday, but I have been told no.  They have advised me to pay the balance and if it is cancelled I will get a refund.  We do not feel at this time with all the uncertainty that we want to take our children on this trip. Can anyone advise if there are any solution other than loosing our deposit?
Many Thanks

As above, they aren't doing anything incorrect, so you have to choose between losing (not loosing  :)) your deposit, or paying the balance and getting a refund if the trip is cancelled.  If you pay the balance and the trip goes ahead, yet you don't wish to join it, check your contract to see what refund you would be owed.  It may be nothing, so you need to know all the facts before making your decision.

With our luck the trip would go ahead and we would lose £1,500 by not going.  This is the first time we have been able to take the kids away on a plane and now they do not want to go.  My daughter is that scared that she will not even go in the garden.

Then it comes down to whether you'd rather definitely lose (not loose) £400 or possibly lose £1500.  It sounds like the former is the least worst option.

You're welcome.  Thanks for taking them constructively - many don't!  :)
