Furlough pay

I am asking on behalf of my brother in law who has been on furlough since the start of the lockdown. He and his other colleagues have not received any pay to date. His boss keeps telling him that they are in the process and they should get paid soon but they have been saying that for a while now. What has an employer got to gain by not furloughing their employees? If they were not going through the books (I’m just speculating at this point) where would he stand?

A week or so ago, applications opened for employers to apply for furlough payments, which then took around 6 days to process. We have been paid at our place (a day earlier than usual) and I see no reason why your Brother in Law wouldn't have been paid by now... the govenrment sends the employer the money who then process it forward to the employee. So it's worth chasing.0

Did they sign an agreement to be furloughed?

Sounds like the employer is waiting to be reimburssed before paying wages at the furlough level. Has he agreed to this? Without employee agreement he should be paid his usual pay, though anyone with less than 2 years service is at risk of having their job terminated very easily.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
