Barclaycard

Hi Everyone. I've had a Barclaycard,(Freedom Reward card), for a number of years and always ensured on time payments using the phone automated service. For the last payment the automated service would not recognize my debit card, the same one I've used for all previous repayments. As my debit card does not contain an issue date, just an expiry date, I'm unable to make payments via the website or the app'. I was supplied with an account number to make this month's payment into. I did this twice and both times the money was returned to my account! After numerous lengthy waits in a phone queue, over 3 days, an advisor informed me that 'we are installing a new system which doesn't recognize ThinkMoney account holders '. The advisor couldn't explain why I, and presumably all ThinkMoney clients hadn't been informed. I've been told that my Barclaycard payments/charges/fees will be frozen for 30 days, how very geneous of them, NOT! Apologies for eing long winded but this situation has been extremely frustratin and annoying, particularly as I have a chronic illness which does not take well to undue stress. I am wondering if anyone in the Forum/s has experienced the same situation, perhaps other ThinkMoney clients, and what, if anything, they've received by way of an explanation? It took me a fair few years to build a decent credit rating and whilst the Barclaycard advisor assured me this current situation won't affect my credit rating the slapdash way I've been treated doesn't fill me with confidence that her assurance is true. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

You can try with a gestimate start date, For example card expiy date 10/22 start date 10/18JohnDixon60 said:As my debit card does not contain an issue date, just an expiry date, I'm unable to make payments via the website or the app'. Did you put your Barclaycard number as the reference when trying to make the payment, also you can try with a smaller amount like £1 first to see if it goes through1 -
Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I tried adding a guestimate issue date, my bank suggested an issue date 3 years prior to expiry date, this didn't work. When I made the payment both times I gave my Barclaycard number, their sort code/account number and a reference code agreed by my bank. Nothing seems to work. I can only hope that the 'glitch' which I'm informed is causing the new system to not recognize ThinkMoney customers is fixed really soon.jay1804 said:

What's the benefit of Think Money account though?
If you have a Barclaycard you're rather likely to be accepted for a current account with them.1 -
Ohh that is very odd, the only other think I can suggest is to get another current account, Monzo and Starling are quite easy and the cards are delivered quick.1

We pay our Barclay card by internet banking, straight from our current account. Is this an option? Otherwise, could you set up a direct debit to pay X amount per month?

(To the OP) You could also pay your Barclaycard bill by scanning the Pingit QR code on the payment slip.
To do this you would first need to download the Barclays Pingit app to your phone. You can link the app to any current account; you don't need to hold an account with Barclays.

I've had a ThinkMoney account since I got into financial difficulties in the early 2000s and then once I was debt free it just seemed sensible to remain with them. I applied for a Barclaycard via BHS instore promotion believing I wouldn't be successful. My intention is to clear the balance then close the account. I have 2 other credit cards so intend to eventually have just one card.penners324 said:What's the benefit of Think Money account though?

Can you not set a direct debit from the think money account? If not - maybe it's time to consider getting a new current account - if you have a Barclaycard - the chances of getting a Barclays account will be high - and as others have said - Monzo or Starling are good starter options. Are you ever going to apply for a mortgage? If you are - I'd not be closing accounts - I'd be keeping them open. More available credit can be beneficial in the eyes of a mortgage provider. (You just have to trust yourself that you don't use them in the wrong way and rack up loads of debt)

I've never used Thinkmoney, but their website indicates that you can set up DDs on even their basic account - so it would appear that may be the simplest solution long term. I don't know whether that can be set up before your '30 day freeze' expires.0

I have a Barclay card bill due June 2nd which I have set up in my online bank account to leave my account on 27th May.
I have two cards which I juggle to ensure that I get 7 weeks free credit before making any payments.
