Fridge freeze over icing

My LG GR 252SBD fridge freezer is freezing up at the back. At the back there is hole, where water seeps out, this is freezing.
It's over 15 years old, not sure if its auto defrost, but surely this should not freeze up. I guess I will try to empty it and totally defrost it, that was probably done last year.

Is the drainage point at the back blocked? Have you cleaned it out?0

This is auto-defrost design. It's odd that the ice builds up above the drainage hole. I don't think this would happen if the hole was blocked. It looks like small amount of ice remains in the gutter after automatic defrosting cycle and this causes the ice building up0

The obvious answer is it's too cold, turn it down (or up!) a bit.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.1

Yes, you probably should defrost it, I assume it's not frost free, then you should also invest in a fridge thermometer to ensure your fridge is set at the correct temperature of no higher than 5C.0

I thought it might need lowering, but just checked the temperature and its 8/10 degrees. It was set at four on a dial that goes to seven. I will resist buying any frozen food, defrost and then see how it performs.neilmcl said:Yes, you probably should defrost it, I assume it's not frost free, then you should also invest in a fridge thermometer to ensure your fridge is set at the correct temperature of no higher than 5C.

If most of the fridge isn't too cold but one spot is, then it might be a blockage. That's terminal in a fridge that old.
To measure the temperature in a fridge put a thermometer in a glass of water, leave it in the fridge long enough to cool then take the glass out & read the thermometer still in the water. Just leaving a thermometer in the fridge tends to give a too high a reading, like 8/10°.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
