O/S Daily Friday 1 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips, beans/veg, I had baked fish. Tonight I may do either chicken enchilades? or something similar.
I'll be heading to the SM shortly to get our weekly supplies.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning folks.Pinch punch.Yesterday turned into a mostly lovely day, until the rain thundered down briefly. Looks fine today so far. This morning I'm heading out to Marks first thing, DM likes their fish range and I do a small shop for a nearby elderly neighbour too. I've also got a order to collect from another shop so will do that too.My hopes of reaching the shredder were dashed! It's right at the back of the pile of heavy furniture and books. I can see it clearly but it would need someone (much younger) to get on the floor and slide under the huge table and back. Ah well, shredding is another job which will have to wait a bit longer.I think having all this time to do things like decluttering, decorating and new appliances etc without the workmen, charity shops or dumps is frustrating. However...it's for the best for now.Sometime in the past I must have done something good - yesterday I get a beautiful bunch of flowers sent to me by another friend. 😀 They came in a long flat box brought by the postie. The packing was so well done with little hats on the heads of the flowers. I feel so blessed to have such good friends even if we are so far apart. This friend lives in East Mids and normally comes to visit me at home twice a year. So many changes in my life since March last year!
Now it's time to get myself ready to face to world. My thoughts are with those having a tough time. Happy Friday to all.16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun that was trying to get out earlier has been overtaken by cloud so another drab day in store. We managed a bit of rain late yesterday afternoon but not a lot. Alright, who is hogging all the rain?! It was fine for the clapping but flippin' heck it was a bit parky! Across the way have attached a big bell to their wall so their DD was happily clanging that all the time! More fireworks going off somewhere.
Yet another day in solitary and I plan to dust and vac all round, up and down. DS is expected at some point with the few grocery items that I couldn't get from Iceland this week.He is off to Morries, so just a little list for him. I know they would both happily get all my shopping but, as both DS and DD have enough mouths to feed, I don't want to add to their burden by presenting a long list!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad, worried and lonely. If anything vaguely exciting happens here at Casa Abuela I may post again later! Take care all and stay safe xx

Good morning, and thanks NMLC.Not a bad morning here, and I don't think it's as cold as it has been in the the last few days.Nels, thanks for the info about shopping deliveries, it was very helpful. I said yesterday that my freezer is still full, but actually when I was getting stuff out yesterday, I realised that gaps are appearing!!At the moment we are ok and can shop when necessary, but you never know, I think I'll try again for delivery just to see what it's like.I've got some split peas soaking to make pea and ham soup, and I think I'll make a smoked bacon minestrone, that's tasty as well.DH is fond of thick, rib sticking soups, so I usually have thick veg, or leek and potato, in the freezer.Gers, I have wondered about how crumbs and other little bits get into drawers, it's not as if they are left open, strange isn't it - the Great Crumb Mystery.RR I'm pleased that you seem to be making a good recovery and have got rid of the dreaded stockings.TA, did you get Sparkle's chin problem sorted out, or is it still on the go?Hope everyone has a good Friday anyway - take care folks16

Good morning everyone
The rain was lashing down in the early hours but now it's dry and forecast to be a sunny day again. I have several people' in our family's birthdays this month so I will be sorting out cards for them later. My grandson facetimed me yesterday and asked for a guitar for his birthday so I have managed to find a suitable one with a strap, strings and a plectrum and I also ordered a simple book to help him and a pitch pipe so he can learn to tune it. I hope it will give him a bit of fun for a while. I used to play a very long time ago and I got my first guitar at his age.
Steve has taken a big lump of beef out to roast for dinner tonight. I have a meat pack being delivered today so we really need some room to appear in the freezers. I have also ordered some more veggies and milk and bread from our local veg man so hopefully that will be here today or tomorrow.
I don't really have much to say at the moment so I will love you and leave you, take care xx

Morning all
Its a bit overcast here atm but the sun is due out later on although it looks cold and windy here, yesterday was miserable and cold, OH lit the fire and I spent a happy afternoon watching a film and dozing in front of the fire.
I had quite an uncomfortable night the lump is back
and I just could not get comfortable despite the new tablets and I have a blooming cold too, I feel a bit miserable and out of sorts today, I shall phone the breast nurse again at 9 and ask about the lump.
Nothing exciting on the cards today we need a few bits from the shop which OH will get, I will probably have my shower then go back to bed for a while and then a film this afternoon.
We are supposed to be having a bbq later but will see what the weather does.
Have good days all and take care xx14 -
Good morning everyone and thank you for the thread nmlc.
TA I'm really sorry. I am hogging your rain. It rained more or less all day yesterday and now it looks like rain again.
I felt quite unwell yesterday and it was purely tiredness. I've had a decent sleep and feel more human.
My casserole last night was basic but delicious and half left in the freezer for another meal. We had it with home made focaccia and some broccoli and I have the broccoli stalks for soup.
Nothing of note happening here so I'm going to have a shower and then pootle about ineffectivelI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all.RedRuby I’m sorry to hear you had such an uncomfortable night and having a cold is never nice either. I’m sure the nurse will sort something out for you. Thinking of your speedy recovery (((hugs))).
nmlc your meals always sound so delicious. I love that it’s part of my daily routine to read about them.Thinking of you all. I know I stopped posting for a couple of years or more but I did read along. Love that you post in the daily now monna.15 -
Morning All
It was quite foggy when I got up but it seems to have burned off now and looks like the sun is going to shine. Yesterday saw some really sharp showers but it was nice and dry for the applause last night.
Hope you are more comfortable this morning RR, good idea to phone the nurse.
I've been for a walk, posted a card and dropped jars off at the glass bank on the way. Called at Aldi on the way back for greens, where's the broccoli? I couldn't get any from Tesco either. I did get some batteries so will get the doorbell working again, I missed a friend yesterday who was dropping off some step paint - her OH works at a rather large DIY store and very kindly got some for me. I'll wait for some more settled weather before I paint the step, need to do one of the windowsills too.
I made little Sophie a taggie blanket yesterday, not sure if she's past that stage but it kept me busy for a couple of hours!
We had a work quiz last night, I didn't do too well but got better as I went on and got used to using the laptop and the phone at the same time. It was quite enjoyable and good to see everyone.
Must re-pot the tomato plants today but apart from that I can please myself, take care everyone, stay safe. XX14 -
Morning all.
I woke up this morning and realised I didn't put my tablet on to charge so had to wait until I had given it enough energy to make a couple of quick posts. Ill be quick and maybe come back later.
Gers, those flowers are wonderful. I often send them if I want something special for someone. The flowers soon perk up from their horizontal bed and they last for ages. I take it they were B and W.
TA, you are so right, it was indeed parky out there last night. The session was quite brief with people shivering and clapping, clapping and shivering........I did my bit with the tin tray and wooden spoon and was glad to get back indoors.
RR, sorry the lump is back. I hope the nurse is able to help you.
AOD I often think of you when I am guiltily looking at all the things in my house that are waiting to be done, shrug my shoulders, make another coffee and pick up a book.
wmf nice to see you too.
I have decided to give myself one job a day. If I do that, sometimes I get into the mood and do other things as well. If I don't get into the mood then at least something has been accomplished. Today I will clear my kitchen counters. They seem to be stilted up with various disinfectanty things. All very necessary, but having them out means that other things have joined them that are not necessary at all. Here goes.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
I'm not sure if I washed the spider down the drain in my shower, or if he took one look at me naked and jumped willingly to his death.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
Morning all, we have the sun back ! My what a bit of rain does for the garden, the grass now needs cutting again, the weeds have grown and the front hedge needs a good trim, but the good news is that the council will start the green waste collection on Monday. Yay!Today I want to put the loppers on charge, they will take about 24hrs so no lopping til tomorrow. I can also fill the green bins with some of the debris hidden in the garden, but ours don't get emptied until a week Tuesday ( once a fortnight ). I have to play in the freezers as I failed to find much room in them yesterday, so I will take it all out and then check it off our list as I put it back. Hopefully yesterday's cooked mince beef meals will then fit........... fingers crossed. I have done 2 meals for Dad but I shall hang on to them until we get our online shop next week, as there is quite a lot ordered for him. He's costing me a fortune in biscuits ( he keeps the tin at his feet ) and telling me that it's all cheaper in Aldis is not helping ! I'm fast turning into a parrot " they don't deliver ! they don't deliver ! "
I shall ask Mr Fix It to use the steam cleaner on the kitchen floor as he loves a gadget .......... me, I'd rather get on my hands and knees (while I'm able) and clean every inch.RedRuby I'm sorry you have the lump back, it must be worrying as well as uncomfortable. I hope you can get it sorted out asap.TA it was freezing here last night for clapping. I noticed someone had put their car hazard lights on and another who has a works van had his orange rotary flasher lights on too. Now go steady with the housework, up and down cleaning ?........ on the same day ? Brings me out in a cold sweat just thinking about that !Right I'd better start on the fridge freezer, then I'll leave my fingers to warm up before tackling the chest one after lunch.Have a good day if you can. Take care, stay safe and hugs to all.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11
