How can I dissuade 19 year old DS from taking out car finance?

You can’t. He’s 19 and an adultAug 24 - Mortgage Balance £242,040.19
Credit Card - £8,141.63 + £4,209.83
Goals: Mortgage Free by 2035, Give up full time work once Mortgage Free, Ensure I have a pension income of £20k per year from 20350 -
I bought cars at that age, my brand new (also German) one on finance was when I was 22 earning 18k. Paid it off after 3 years, kept it for 7 years in total, bought the next car outright. My parents were in despair but I turned out alright,.....and I didn't live at home so paid market rent too (having said that I have only ever paid for car insurance and tax annually and saved absolutely everything I could to pay it off and save for a house which I did a few years later). I won't get finance now but save up to change it every 4-5 years. Sometimes they just have to get it out of their system.......I had to.

If you can't spend money on things that aren't strictly necessary when you're 19 with no responsibilities, then when can you?
In my case it was holidays not cars but I could afford it and never regretted it.
Let him get on with it. If it goes pear-shaped, it's his mess not yours.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
I find it fascinating that you are more interested in the money than the safety of your son and other people that he may kill or injure. His insurance will be sky high to cover the cost of injuries that people like him cause.1

If all goes to plan then it increases his credit rating which will help for other lending in the future.
He is 19, has few responsibilities, wants to enjoy it. Good luck to him2 -
Does he realise how much it could cost him to fill up ?
Is he aware of more petrol used if he goss too fast ?
Is he aware of the cost of tyres if he brakes too excessively ?
And if hes caught speeding, what would his excuse be ?

And if hes caught speeding, what would his excuse be ?Every parent thinks their child drives too fast, not quite right etc. He already has a car, so I'm sure he's aware of the associated costs.....Let him learn. If you can't make a mistake at 19 then when can you? Rather he spent £4000 now to get it out of his system than learn another more expensive way later on. £4000 isn't even very much on a car!1 -
Has he got insurance quotes for the car? The insurance could easily cost over £2K for the year. He may need to drive with a black box which would be good for everybody of course. Buying a sporty car of that age and price is fraught with problems. May need to spend a small fortune to keep it on the road and after paying £4K you won't want scrap it either.1
