Cancelling Wifi

I have just recent moved out of my flat back home and have tried phoning virgin to cancel our broadband contract which we can do so under the terms of our contract. I can’t however get through to speak to anyone on the phone - tried several times and been on hold for over an hour and I don’t have that time right now with being a key worker. I sent a letter at the start of the month informing them that I was looking to cancel the contract as of end of April and they haven’t got back to me. Can I cancel the direct debit now that I’ve let them know I’m cancelling and they’re the ones who haven’t got back to me?
Thanks

Did you get a signature for the letter? Is there a notice period?0

When does your contract term end? Cancelling the direct debit will stop payments being made. You'll still be liable until the end of the contract term.0

A lot of virgin media call centres are closed because of the pandemic, which is why you're having difficulties ringing them. If you're still in contract you should continue the DD until the contract has ended.

No don't cancel the DD & think that will be sufficient.
can you cancel online?0 -
Virgin Media is the company which permanently put me off setting up direct debits, they continually re-set their DD after I had canceled it, left them, and didn't owe them a single penny. It was stopped in the end by going into the account and changing the payment method to 'on-demand' and I never heard from them again. Don't know if this might help you?0

I am not a fan of Virgin and cancelled my broadband with them earlier this year.GHolmesAdmin said:Virgin Media is the company which permanently put me off setting up direct debits, they continually re-set their DD after I had canceled it, left them, and didn't owe them a single penny. To be fair that was about the only thing they have ever got right! I had to give a month's notice and I got several calls with offers trying to entice me to stay but the process was completely smooth, with the correct amounts being taken at the right times and then the DD being cancelled, by them, and no longer appearing on my bank's list of active DDs.1 -
I got thru to them yesterday,a lot of them are working from home it would seem, just takes time, but if you can ring after 16.30 seems to be best time, they only do cancellations on phone, nothing online to let you do it.what number did you ring?0
