Moved from British Gas
I moved from british gas on 7th april to another supplier sent my final readings to new supplier. Received an email 2 weeks ago to say after all my payments my account was £271 in credit. Does this get automatically debited to your account that the DD comes out of.
i just find it strange that i got an email saying that i was £271 in credit after my
latest bill on 14th april, 1 week after my supply with them ended.

Was that your final bill? If so yes the credit will be refunded back into the account the direct debits came from.0

Make sure you save the bill for at least a year and check that the closing meter readings are exactly the same as the opening readings with your new supplier - if they aren't then you are likely to get a revised bill sometime in the future.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

It's probably legit, but be aware of the possibility it could be a scam. You might receive a further email asking for your bank or debit card details 'so that the refund can be paid without delay'. A big supplier such as BG is a prime target for such scammers - send out enough emails and some will reach people who have just moved away from BG.The lesson to be learned is that you should have been sufficiently au fait with your account to have worked out exactly what was owing so the alleged £271 credit should not have been a surprise. Apologies for lecturing, but if you're not keeping tabs on your account (and allowing a large credit to build up, especially just after the winter) then it's more likely to end in tears !0
