Can I be refused a refund on a faulty item?

I had a delivery from Argos yesterday (29/04) and began assembling this morning (30/04). When I was building the product I noticed that two parts were missing and part of the item was broken.
I haven’t been able to get in touch with them as of yet due to no response on the phone, live chat or Twitter but they have said in their replies to other customers that they will not be giving refunds on faulty items. They are simply saying that customers will have to wait until stores eventually reopen and can return it then and have advised people to reorder their broken items in the meantime.
I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t have the money to replace items that were delivered broken.

It sounds like a fair option based on the current worldwide circumstances. It's not great that you've received something broken and faulty - but they can't be expected to refund it without seeing it first - and to see it first it needs to go back into a shop for inspection. (Otherwise half their customers might start claiming for refunds and the stuff never making it back to their stores). They are certainly not refusing refunds - they are just telling you how to go about it - but it'll need some patience. They also can't just come and get it - as their supply chains to you are controlled and virus free, they can't guarantee that everyone that wants to return something is virus free, and so they can't put their people at risk in the short-term. I agree that most of us don't have money splashing about to buy things twice - but the reality is that's the worldwide situation for now, and you will get your money back eventually. For the moment your choices are to buy another - or wait until the shops open for an exchange.0
