I run a small campsite and ask for a booking fee which I understand isn't refundable (unless in exceptional circumstances), people are now asking for this to be refunded under the current corona virus situation .... am I within my rights to offer alternative dates even if it is for 2021?

I have also been advised that I should be keeping this money aside until the person in question has actually taken their holiday with me, is this correct?

I believe if people booked direct with you and you run the camp site then you can't keep any booking fees if you have to cancel
As I think it's all to do with the direct contract, as no one would be happy if Amazon couldn't deliver the product but kept a fee so you didn't get a full refund.

You need a contract. Do people book online? Do they see terms and conditions? You’re in a very grey area if you are taking deposits without making clear what they are for.
