Just to say thank you so much to everyone who helped on this thread. You were right, using the info you provided I was able to challenge the decision and they corrected it, paying out UC today. Thanks again3

lloyd7 said:Fizzy80 I have exactly the same scenario as you, I am a hairdresser and my husband a taxi driver, zero income due to the lockdown. Own a buy to let and when I applied for UC got a big fat zero! I rang and said someone made a mistake as I don’t actually get the rental income, I get the surplus after mortgage, service charges and I still have to pay tax on the surplus money. Told it wasn’t a mistake but I can appeal if I want to. Have done an appeal but decision takes 4 weeks! Will you be able to get the 80% in June for self employed?
They said they would raise it. I then posted some of what people had put here in my journal and I got a decision today that it would be counted as capital and reduced to £0, meaning I get my full benefit.
It didn't take long to get through on the phone, maybe you could try that?

Fizzy80 that’s great news for you.Did it matter that you have equity in the property?Should it be counted as capital and not income?I have just found out that I don’t qualify for the government self employed scheme but my husband luckily qualified. This is honestly so stressful!1

It should all be counted as Capital. Post the info on this thread in your journal1 -
Fizzy80 is this temporary because of Covid 19 and we can’t sell at the moment?0

Fizzy80 I did get through on the phone and he just said I was clearly just unhappy how they had calculated it. Did ask why it hadn’t been calculated as capital rather than income but didn’t get anywhere he just said put it in your journal. (Have requested several times if they could call me in the journal as I also need help with the self employed income they want from the last two years, don’t know how to do it but they don’t ring you) Have to say he was really rude to me as I couldn’t explain myself and ended up in tears.
What did you put in the journal for them to change their decision?0
