Emergency volunteering leave

Hi has anyone heard anymore following the government announcing EVL as a bill. I've taken a month unpaid leave, hoping to claim some back. Furlough wasn't an option

You don't get paid by your employer for being on emergency volunteering leave.  Everything else in your contract remains the same though, so it doesn't class as a break in service and it doesn't affect your holiday entitlement.

The government is looking at a compensation scheme for those who lose money by going on emergency volunteering leave but if you were going to be on unpaid leave anyway then you may not be eligible as you haven't lost any earnings by volunteering.

Undervalued

In a funny sort of way this is a bit like jury service (although obviously that is compulsory)!

Your employer is legally obliged to give you the time off but they are not obliged to pay you. If they don't you can claim limited compensation but if you have a well paid job you are significantly out of pocket.

Just to clarify, I volunteered via sja for the NHS local hospital. My employer granted a four week block of leave. I'm banking on claiming something back, via the evl. Although no detail on how, has been forth coming. The bill announced I understand is a proposal which needs to be voted on to turn to legislation?
