Yes, that is most probably the case. When I was tidying up inside the car, it auto-locked after 3-5 minutes. This is with the fuel cap pushed in. I checked my petrol and I still have over half a tank which is what I had before. I think the fuel cap was pushed "out" before the normal locking time of the car, which is 3-5 minutes and then the crook likely came back in the early hours. I'm going to have a test of my theory later to see if my car will auto-lock with the fuel cap open.neilmcl said:^This is the right answer. Did you not read the post above mine. Your car probably, like most cars, only automatically locks when you've unlocked it but haven't either turned on the ignition or opened the doors, or combination of the two. To test your theory you will need to take the car out for a run, park back up and leave it unlocked to see if it does lock itself.jay213 said:

What's the make /model of your car?1 -
This. My Mazda does this if (as is often the case) I unlock the car but don't start the engine, because I have forgotten something...neilmcl said:

I wouldn't bother reporting anything. Just sanitize the car and double check you've locked it next time.1

We're encouraged to report this kind of thing where I live. The Police don't have the resources to do anything about individual cases but they do look at the stats and issue warnings to local residents when there's a lot of it going on in an area.0
