Furlough help

My daughter started a new job on the 17th feb 2020. She got her first wage on the 31st March 2020. Her employers say she can’t be furloughed, is that right? If she can’t be furloughed what help can she get.

Yes they are correct. To be eligible for furlough then HMRC must have received RTI information no later than 19th March and with being paid on 31st March it's very unlikely they would have received that information by that date. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/furlough-scheme-cut-off-date-extended-to-19-march

If needed look at eligibility for Universal Credit https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/.
There are online calculators to help her assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
Be aware that claiming UC will end any Tax Credits, Housing Benefit or other means tested benefits she currently gets.
She will be excluded from UC if she has savings over £16,000.
If she is part of a couple they both have to claim and are assessed on their joint circumstances.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
