Ssp or Furlough

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in early January, my work were very kind to keep paying me full wage but this past month I was placed on ssp. Is it possible that they could place me in furlough instead to support with finances.

If there's no work available then yes they can furlough you. Although if you're unable to work because your health condition or you've been sent the shielding letter by the NHS then SSP is correct. You were just lucky to have received full pay up until one month ago.

If you have low income then you can claim Universal Credit but do be aware that if you claim tax credits this will stop if you claim UC.

Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement. Savings/capital of more than £16,000 will exclude you.
  • Thank you so much for replying. I was 99% sure that ssp was my only entitlement never hurts to ask though. Hope you stay safe, healthy and happy.

Luke you say in the circumstances you can certainly ask the question, if not then at least you know the SSP will be there.

Sorry to hear of the news and wishing you luck with your illness.
