hello me and my partner have a virgin holidays, holiday booked for November 2020 to Florida Disney world. This was due to be a holiday of a lifetime, my partner has never been. however since the pandemic this has put this years travel in serious doubt. thing is we both have health conditions, im a transplanted, so naturally were high high risk and are in the vulnerable isolation group. we have currently paid (via my credit card) the deposit of £375, plus a further £900 off the balance, leaving us with a balance to pay of £2351.98. ive read that some providers, virgin included are offering to move holiday to 2021. the issue for us is, I doubt we would be able to go this year, even if foreign office travel advice is lifted, due to our susceptibility to infection, especially in my case. likewise if we were to move our holiday to 2021, there is no guarantee, our travel situation would be any better? even if things are near normal by then. until a vaccination is in place, we are not totally safe. any advice or thoughts on how we can best see our way through this, naturally we want to loose as little money as possible, but are prepared to potentially loose our initial deposit, would we get the additional £900 we payed back? we still want to the holiday but refund permitting it maybe better to save it and book when things are better on all fronts for us. I have an travel insurance policy in force.

thanks in advance

david

Have a look at your terms and conditions.  They'll explain what you would forfeit if you cancel now.

If you choose to cancel, credit card or insurance won't take action unless Virgin withhold anything they're obliged to refund you.

Virgin Holidays T&C's state that if you cancel more than 84 days before departure then you only lose your deposit.  So you would be entitled to the extra £900 back.

I did hope that would be the case, its a hit but an acceptable one, given the overall balance we stand to forfeit.

It's a personal choice of uncertainty and financial exposure vs peace of mind and financial certainty.

You could leave the booking in place but then you would need to pay the balance when it's due.  If Virgin have to cancel then you'd be entitled to a full refund.  If the holiday is going ahead then it would be a Travel Insurance issue if you couldn't travel, and you'd likely need a Doctor's letter etc.  That is assuming your insurance would pay.

I've cancelled my holiday with Virgin Holidays in September. I had also paid more than the deposit. On cancelling the holiday I have forfeited the deposit (as expected) and am waiting for a refund of the balance paid. Cancelled on 25th March- no refund as yet.
  • That probably sounds the safest and less risky approach, yes I loose the deposit of £375, which is a fair sum but I don’t have to pay more than £3000 balance to potentially loose it all. Depending how this thing pans out. I hope you get your money soon :) thanks
