Centerparcs Holiday cancellation because of shielding

I booked a trip to centerparcs in December 2019 for the beginning of June and paid a deposit. I took out their cancellation insurance at the time of booking. Because of COVID I have been classified as extremely vulnerable and advised to shield for 12 weeks. My holiday falls into this 12 week period. Centerparcs have said “The insurance does not cover you for shielding due to COVID”. I am going to have to cancel the holiday, but will I have to lose the deposit as well? The alternative they have offered is to rebook a holiday during 2020. Am I being unreasonable to be irked at losing my deposit?

It will depend on the terms and conditions of your booking but it would be the norm for you to lose your deposit if you decided not to proceed with your holiday. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1

If you were mis-sold the insurance then (you were lead to believe you would be covered) then you might be coveredLisaMJB said:I booked a trip to centerparcs in December 2019 for the beginning of June and paid a deposit. Also what was the cancellation policy , did it let you cancel for certain reasons?
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Also you know all Parcs are closed to the end of May, if you hang on you will get a full refund if they are closed

I think really you need to have a closer look at the cancellation policy, COVID certainly wasn’t on the radar when you made your booking so it depends on the exclusions.
Usually though the main line is if you are cancelling then yes you should expect to lose the deposit.0
