how your employer asseses your furlough payment

after recieving my wage slip today which is 1st one of furlough, i queried with my payroll as to how they reached the figures as i worked it out done by the average monthly wage of 2019/20 tax year. yet my payroll emailed to me that HMRC instructed them to calculate based on the number of weeks or days furloughed in a payroll period. Has anybody had this happen to them because not doing the figures by monthly average of 2019/20 tax year leaves me £154.97 gross out of pocket.

I don't think you are comparing like with like. For someone on monthly variable pay, as it appears you are, your employer can recover the higher of your monthly pay in the equivalent calendar month of the previous year, and your average monthly wage for 2019/20. You have said the second figure is the right one. That gives a monthly rate of pay which you can convert to a daily rate . You then look at the number of days you are furloughed under the claim and apply the daily rate to that. The guidance explains it better than me at:
