Student rent

This has been asked many times here. You signed a contract so therefore yes you need to pay the remainder of the rent up until the end of your tenancy agreement. If you've had a student loan then those were paid as normal in April for the final term.

It’s not the landlord’s fault either, you chose to leave the house & I presume left your belongings in it. The house is still available to you, the landlords kept up his end of the contract so you are expected to pay the amount you agreed to pay when you signed the contract.iGY said:Hi, wondered if anyone had advice or experience in my situation. I am a uni student in private rented house. I visited home just before lockdown and cannot now return. My landlord is now asking me to pay £1000 for the next quarters rent. Is this reasonable or should I pay. It’s not my fault I cannot return. Any help or advice appreciated. Igy0 -
Hi iGY
Does your contract have a break clause? Did you inform your landlord that you were not coming back?1 -

Why can't you return? I am sure as soon they announced the lockdown they did not expect everybody to stay in the building they were in at that moment. It is your house so no reason why you can’t return. Granted might not be as easy explaining it now 5 weeks later.
I am guessing what you really mean is that you do not want to return. As others had said you and the landlord signed a contract he has met his side , how would you have felt if he evicted you with no notice at Christmas? I am sure you would have been saying he could not due to the contract
