children not allowed in Decathalon shop

My 14 year old son came home from school and asked whether he could borrow some money so he could go and buy some swimming goggles for school tomorrow as his current ones had broken.
I gave him some money and he and his friend went down to the local Decathalon sports shop still in their school uniforms wearing smart blazers and a tie. They've just come back a little upset as they were turned away at the door by a burly security guard who told them that children are not allowed unaccompanied in the store.
I've phoned the store who confirmed it is their national policy to turn away children under 16 unless accompanied by an adult. I'm absolutely astonished that they are doing this, and all I can say is that this policy explains why the store is always totally deserted.
They certainly won't be getting my custom again. I can understand why they might not allow large rowdy groups in but 2 children both identifiable by school badges?

Well surely it's the right of the private property owner to decide who they allow onto their property, so if they don't allow unsupervised kids in it's up to them.
Maybe they just don't want people who know there's an apostrophe in they're.0 -
decisions like that are usually built on experience. If in their experience they've found that kids are more likely to shoplift then they build their policy around it.0

must admit, our papershop only allows kids in in two at a time, to reduce nicking of stuff. sad world we live in somethimes.0

This is a product of the society we are building for ourselves. As someone else said they have probably had trouble with children shoplifting or running around and have made this a policy. We reap what we sow ....
