Furlough wages unpaid due to employer being registered as a charity / wmc

My son has just shared that he hasn't been receiving his 80% furlough wage as his employer says they are a charity (it is in fact a sports & social club) and they are exempt. Can anyone help? Is this correct?

Have you checked if they are actually a charity on the Charity Commission website? It may possibly be setup as such if it has some charitable activities. If they are claiming to be a charity but are not legally registered as such they are breaking the law.JH137 said:My son has just shared that he hasn't been receiving his 80% furlough wage as his employer says they are a charity (it is in fact a sports & social club) and they are exempt. Did they initially offer to furlough him (and he accepted) but are now saying they can't?0 -
Charities are not excluded from the furlough scheme:
"Any entity with a UK payroll can apply, including businesses, charities, recruitment agencies and public authorities."
Organisations that receive public funding are generally expected to use that funding rather than the furlough scheme.0
