Universal credit and self employed scheme

I'm wondering if anyone knows when you apply for universal credit and then the self employed scheme, whether the money you have been paid by universal credit gets deducted from the money we will receive from self employed scheme? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you 😊

No it doesn't. UC will be reduced in the month you receive the grant, probably to zero, and the following month's UC may also be affected. Government guidance now says:
"You can make a claim for Universal Credit while you wait for the grant. You should record the grant as part of your self-employment income, and it may affect the amount of Universal Credit you get. This will not affect Universal Credit claims for earlier periods."

Bear in mind that if you currently claim tax credits, starting a claim for UC will stop tax credits forever.
  • Both myself and my husband are self employed so haven't worked for over 5 weeks now. Not in receipt of any other type of benefit. Had heard differing info re universal credit being deducted from self employed money once it is worked out

As has already been advised, if you claim UC then it won't affect any grant you may receive. It does however, affect your UC in the month the grant is received.
If you have savings/capital of £16,000 and over then you will be excluded from claiming UC.
