UC & random ‘to-do’ questions

Hi there, we’ve claimed UC since we moved myself and my partner moved in together a few months ago. Before that I was on the ‘old’ benefit system which topped up my 22 hour a week income. So we’ve been on UC a while now, anyway, today on our to do list was some random questions. Asking if I had ever earned less than £430 a month in the previous 9 before before the UC claim (no), asking if I had a partner in the 9 months before the UC claim (no, we made the claim when we found a house together so yes together but not living together for what they deem a partner to be) and asking me for my monthly pays to be inputed for the 9 months before we started this claim. Random? I think they’ve asked my partner the same from what I can see on the to-do, or at least similar. Has anyone else had this? The only thing I can think that has kick started this is I had to do my daughters reconfirmation of 30 hour funded childcare through GOV yesterday- you have to do this every 3 months I believe- and I obviously changed my details to say that I had a partner, had to input his unique reference number and also had to say that I was currently on sick pay as it asked if I would earn £430 or less potentially in the next three months...similar Q to UC? So perhaps this is why, sorry to ramble, and I know that HMRC and DWP link but I just find it a bit bizaare as why would UC need to know how much money I earnt before we moved in together and made our joint claim? I get that they’re allowed to ask what they want but just wondered if anyone had similar and why

It's not random. it is to do with determining whether or not you are within a grace period within which the benefit cap would not apply even if your total benefit income is high.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1
