Why is my car insurance premium more expensive WITH my IN10 conviction declared, than WITHOUT it ?

I currently have 6 points on my licence. I gained these in Dec 2016 and since then, every year, all my car insurance quotes have been expensive. With one more year until my points are removed and I no longer need to declare this driving conviction, my insurance has finally dropped to £750. I have 3 years no claims bonus.

Out of curiosity, I edited my details and removed the driving conviction and changed the no claims bonus figure to 4 years, just to see how much I might be paying next year. To my surprise, the quote was more or less the same as what I had been quoted for this year. However, when I left the conviction in, (IN10) my quote was £650.

Why is this ? Surely my car insurance should be cheaper without the conviction ? Am I missing something ?

And no, I haven't made any errors in typing

Thanks

Yes your missing insuance quotes often make zero sense. The computer says £££.

You may have triggered an anti-fraud mechanism. If you chop and change details on your quotes (eg adding and removing convictions, or changing the amount of NCD you have) insurers will often start quoting higher prices, or even stop quoting altogether, as they don't believe that you are telling the truth.

Also, be aware that while the endorsement remains on your licence (nowadays electronically) for 4 years, most insurers require you to declare it for 5 years, which is the length of time it takes to become "spent" under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. So it will be December 2021 before you can get a quote without declaring it, unless you find an insurer which specifically asks about a shorter time period.

Looks like an anti-fraud check has been triggered.   As mentioned above, certain questions on quotes will trigger anti-fraud measures if you change details.   Either increasing the price because you are telling lies or even refusing cover.

Whenever you do dummy quotes on a quote site, do not use real details.

I would go further and use a VPN, as insurers are catching on to dummy quotes now and location checking
