Using builders’ bags in the garden

I have three or four cubic metre builders’ bags which I’d like to use for planting vegetables, or possibly fruit bushes/trees, but the metre height is a bit too high (except for prize-winning parsnips
).

Does anyone use them? I could cut the sides down, but would lose structural integrity, or turn the sides down inside or outside, but would create ideal accommodation for slugs, snails, and other pests.
Any ideas? It seems a shame to waste them.

we built a planting area with old decking boards and then lined them with these, still going strong many years later. we did cut them down but once full of earth they seem quite solid but maybe thats cos of the decking around themWhen you know better you do better1

They won't lose their integrity if they are proper builders bags, they'll just be shorter. I used one a couple of years ago to put the compost in. Made lovely compost. They will take a lot of filling though. It also might be an idea to put some kind of tray or bowl/s in the bottom to make sure there's always a little bit of water in there because water will seep out of them.
