Eversmart (now administered by Utilita) phishing email demanding payment of £302.31 ?

My wife received the following email purporting to be from Eversmart (or not) Energy on Saturday demanding a payment of ?302.31 (or I am assuming they meant £302.31).
The email had a footer with the Utilita logo embedded in it?
Is this for real and did anyone else get this?
We were transferred to Utilita on 11th September 2019 as per the letter we received
“You will become a Utilita customer on Wednesday 11 September and your energy supply will transfer to Utilita by Wednesday 18 September”
We subsequently left Utilita in January this year moving to EDF energy and received a closing bill from Utilita which we paid in full.
Is this a phishing email or has anyone else got this letter and considering that Utilita were the designated suppliers from September last year and we received a FINAL BILL from them, is a genuine letter and is it legally enforceable?
I look forward to everyone’s feedback.

  • I'd do nothing, and wait for the promised paper copy and cover letter to drop through the letterbox.  Then you can raise a formal complaint and let Utilita deal with it.  No way of knowing whether you actually owe the money or not without more information about meter readings etc.

I would say the email is a spoofing one.
I also received notification from Utilita about money owing. I did. Buy they ended up checking my old eversmart account and ended up sending me a cheque.
The actual email address is www.utilita.co.uk  and the actual telephone number  is 03300 535 669 with a facility to talk to advisor dealing with Eversmart ex customers.

So as advised do nothing. Or give the real people a call for piece of mind?

Looks like a scam to me: a search for the (allegedly) Winchester 01962 number yields no results.

Yes the actual real number given by Utilita last year was 01962 679 098 rather than the spoof one of 01962 678 809

They tried to get it close? LOL.

Op probably will not be back. 1PW? But the question I would ask is why stay with Utilita from Sept 2019 to Jan 2020?
