It used to be the case that eBay enforced their "three strikes and you're out" policy fairly rigidly.
However, for some "unknown" reason (but probably because they reckoned they were ejecting too many sellers - on whom they rely to provide the major proportion of their profits
) they altered this policy some months ago.
Now its fairly (and deliberately ?) hazy. Something to do with the number of strikes within a certain period of time.
So dodgy sellers (and buyers) can now, presumably, get away with any number of indiscretions as long as they're smart enough to spread them out over a period of time .
eBay is a prime example of a monopoly more interested in profits than any user satisfaction.
And, in many respects, totally lacking in any common sense.0 -
Half the problem are greedy buyers who put their money on the line buying from people like him...the guy/kid wasn't exactly a criminal mastermind:
1) No selling history
2) His laptops had no brand name or model number but were "custom build"
3) Centrino laptops for £170 (if that doesn't sound warning bells I don't know what will)
4) One line descriptions littered with txt abbreviations e.g. "wifi xp home smart laptop chex or paypal only and payment must be within 48hrs or it will be relisted"
Greed, pure and simple0 -
Buyers need to have a bit more common sense, if this guy set up a market stall and put up a poster with that sort of description, would you buy from that stall?
If you think something is too good to be true on ebay, then sadly it generally is, and you'll have just wasted money rather than saved it, a fool and his money are easily parted.0 -
his items have all been cancelled now :-)
I was gonna turn up on his doorstep with cash and ask for the laptop just for a laugh to see what he does :-)money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)
