Hello all - we're looking to get a new gas meter in a property that's far away from us installed.  Unfortunately many of the suppliers installing meters in emergency situations - which ours isn't.  I wondered if anyone here had any ideas or recommendations of decent suppliers that would be willing to do it.  The property is in Ripley, Derbyshire.
Thanking in advance.  Stay safe and well :-)

Is this a meter for a new Gas installation, or is it an exchange for an existing meter

How far has this new gas connection got - If your local network supplier has completed the pipe to the premises, they will have issued you with an NPRN number, KEEP THIS RECORD SAFE as no company will supply you gas without it.
Best bet to get the meter installed is to ask your present Elec supplier, however if your present supplier is one of the small, newer companies, it's probably best to Switch to one of the big 6, EDF for example, and then Switch again when the job is done.

Thanks for the advice.  Yes, it was previously connected with British Gas but they are only installing meters in emergencies only at the moment.  I think most of the energy suppliers are saying the same thing...

    What in a NPRN?M
Ive heard of MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) This isn’t issued by a network. The only number given by a network is a SID  (service ID)
Normally, when a customer wants gas, they raise a job with a network. Normally a live or dead check.  The service is then checked to confirm if it’s live or dead. If live, the job reference number is passed on to the customer to give to their supplier of choice.
Who will then be able to see the length, diameter, and material of said service.
If it’s dead the customer needs to pay for a new service to be installed.
  • Long waiting time for gas meter installations across the UK because of the lockdown - 6-12 weeks
