Not entitled to U/C, waste of time, advice needed.

First time applying for U/C so maybe a bit clueless. I'm claiming as a couple with 1 child. I'm working but partner isn't. Our allowance is £871.12. Our assessment period is 27th march to 26th april. First payment due 3rd may. On the 27th march i was paid my wages net £1197.23 & 24th April I was paid net £1372.55. Our first payment is now 0 because of earnings of £2569.78. How can they include march wages when that was to get me through april and already spent. I don't understand it at all, it doesn't seem very fair.

UC entitlement depends on earnings received during your assessment period. As you received 2 wages during your AP then yes it's correct that your UC is reduced to zero. Earnings reduce the amount your entitled to by 63% if you don't have a work allowance.UC is paid 1 month in arrears. Next month if no earnings are received during your AP then you will receive the full amount of UC for your circumstances.1

You have been very unfortunate, had you claimed a day later your March wages would not have been taken into account.
If you are paid every 4 weeks rather than monthly this does impact UC entitlement in monthly assessment periods when two payments are received. If you are paid monthly but your employer has simply paid you a couple days early due to the weekend then they should have reported the wages as the normal due date not the date when they actually paid you. Having a monthly pay date which is very close to your UC AP dates can easily give rise to a problem - but is impossible to fix.

Is my next assessment period 27th April to 26th may? Do you know how much of my allowance would of been if they had of gone of my earnings of £1372.55. It states the first £500 is not affected and then I loose 63pence for every £10

Do the maths. Earnings deduction £1372.55 - £512 = £861.55 x 63% = £542.78ssdkck said: Do you know how much of my allowance would of been if they had of gone of my earnings of £1372.55. It states the first £500 is not affected and then I loose 63pence for every £1
UC payable = £871.12 - £542.78 = £328.34Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
I have worked out my dates for wages paid in the second assessment period and I will have zero earnings. So from reading the above post from poppy I should receive my full allowance. As my first payment is zero do I need to do a re claim or just leave it.0

At the present time I don’t think your claim will be closed but just keep an eye on your UC journal. If the claim is closed you will be able to do a rapid reclaim through the journal.ssdkck said:I have worked out my dates for wages paid in the second assessment period and I will have zero earnings. Yes, when no earnings are received during an AP you will receive the full UC amount for your circumstances. Sometimes a claim which has been reduced to zero will cause your UC claim end. If this has happened you can make a rapid reclaim through your journal. You will still have the same AP dates.
