Hi,

We are due to travel to Cyprus (from England) at the end of June for a friend's wedding. The wedding has been cancelled and therefore we now have no purpose for the holiday.

We booked via credit card through a third party travel company. It is an ATOL protected trip. We paid the deposit at the time of booking and the one and only payment we have remaining is due at the start of June.

We tried to contact the travel company about a month ago but no reply yet and I have been in touch with my travel insurance company today whom stated that this is not covered.

Without waiting for the holiday to be cancelled due to covid-19, is there any way we could receive a refund please? Any advice will be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

I doubt it very much.   Your options will be to wait for the travel firm to cancel your holidays at which point you will be offered a refund or credit note - or - you cancel now and accept any cancellation penalties/loss of deposit etc.   I am afraid the purpose of your trip to Cyprus will not be of interest to the tour operator.

Just to add to the above, debit card, credit card, ABTA, ATOL.... none of these would cover you in this case.  You are changing your mind about travelling.

Covid-19 may give you a get out though.  I'd say it's highly unlikely they'll be able to give you the holiday anwyay, so if you wait for them to cancel then you would be entitled to a full refund as @Westin says.

And as for not having a reply from the (unnamed) 3rd party travel company, they are almost certainly concentrating on people whose holidays are much closer than yours.
I have a holiday booked with TUI for mid-June, paid in full.
I've not tried to contact them as I know they are busy with earlier departures.
They even ask you to  hold off calling them if your holiday is after 14th May.

Just sit tight and wait for the booking to be cancelled, if you don't you will lose the right to a refund completely

    Hi can you help please
We were due to get married in Las Vegas on 20/06/20 BA have now cancelled the flights and holiday, and i have asked the wedding planner about a refund but they say no refunds but we can move the date for up to 5 years time. The problem being we can not all go together at another time. we paid $1800 which isnt a vast amount but it would really help to get it back. is there anywhere else i can ask about a refund we paid on the credit card would they refund? We are booked with 702 holidays and now they are closed and i can not get in touch with anyone
    thanks in advance Lynkk
