I am now more that a bit worried and slightly miffed that it was an MSE top account recommendation.  I assumed that MSE would have done some due diligence on companies before recommending them.
Worth reading the section further down this page entitled 'how this site works':

We think it's important you understand the strengths and limitations of the site. We're a journalistic website and aim to provide the best MoneySaving guides, tips, tools and techniques, but can't guarantee to be perfect, so do note you use the information at your own risk and we can't accept liability if things go wrong.

    • This info does not constitute financial advice, always do your own research on top to ensure it's right for your specific circumstances and remember we focus on rates not service.
    • We don't as a general policy investigate the solvency of companies mentioned (how likely they are to go bust), but there is a risk any company can struggle and it's rarely made public until it's too late (see the Section 75 guide for protection tips).
    • Do note, while we always aim to give you accurate product info at the point of publication, unfortunately price and terms of products and deals can always be changed by the provider afterwards, so double check first.
    • We often link to other websites, but we can't be responsible for their content.

You might not have noticed, but there's a bit of a to-do going on at the moment....

If you're opening new accounts at the minute just to chase marginally higher interest rates, I think you have to realise banks are chronically under capacity to deal with every request instantaneously whilst all their staff are working from home, especially given the amount of people moving money around following interest rate cuts.

Some seem to be struggling more than others though....
  • Everything was ready but had the same problem with authenticating as a new Customer during the same time. Stayed on their phone line over 1 hour in vain, Lodged a claim on April 24th which was finally responded today (1.5 months to reply to an email!??), but Vanquis has now conveniently closed my fix term account, which commanded a 1.6% rate (after 30 days of inaction due to not being able to fund the account) to ask me to re-open a new one at a much lower rate... Based on that experience I am understandly not inclined to recommend them
