  • Sorry no tips on penhsligans, i like lime basil and mandarin for my every day perfume but I have found a local independent craft cottage type person who makes her own and I can’t tell the difference between hers and the named brand I get elsewhere.  Hers is also cheaper for more so it’s a win win.

His lordship has been paid today, not sure why it’s late but I don’t really mind.  Still no date on him coming home but I’m going to have a break from debt busting this month.  I’ll still blast the debt but threes a few things that I want to buy Christmas and birthday wise so im going to get it now so it’s done and out the way.  I have 4 pay days between now and Christmas so I’m not overly concerned about it given one of those paydays was to be used for Christmas presents.

I want to book a day off work next week so that I can finish all the Christmas presents and put them in the loft out the way,  I’ve tagged everything and have a list so I know what I have for everyone but I need to move it out the study into the loft.

thats about it, I’ve looked at booking his lordship a Covid test when he gets home but it’s looking at £175.  Still feel it might be worth it for peace of mind but it depends where he gets off ship
as my goal is minimising our risk.

  • Now I’m dithering.  There is £800 in dh fun money account and £950 in his work account.  I’m debating using that money across both those accounts to pay off my tsb credit card and close it and pay more off my next account?  I can’t be trusted with a credit card and feel good that I’ve managed to save that money but realistically it would be better off a credit card or a store card,

he is getting a bonus when he finally comes home so that will cover his courses that he has to do so I think it best that I do put that money to cover a card, but then it’s the typical if I’m debating this is it actually a good idea senario as if I’m thinking it it generally isn’t a good idea to do.  His lordship doesn’t need snythign st the moment and the booze and snack cupboards are very well stocked so why shouldn’t I use that money.  He wants a new Xbox but they need a 4K tv to run well and frankly I will put my foot down, I know I said previously I was good for him spending about a grand' but that tv works perfectly fine so why should we get rid just to buy a new Xbox.  He can wait till next time he is home after this trip if he wants one as we will have paid a huge more chunk of debt.

Why do I do this to myself.  I haven’t yet bought the couple of things I was planning to yet either as I can’t bring myself to press confirm on my basket.

thwts it I’m paying off my credit card and a huge chunk off my next card.
  • Oh there is also 200 emergency fund that I can use.  I can’t use the house fund or the car fund as tv licence is due in November and car insurance for both cars is due December,
  • Do it. I agree he can wait until next time for his xbox and new TV. Will give you both something to aim for.

Hubby has pre ordered a new Xbox, not sure there are any left, and he has mentioned nothing about needing a 4k TV. Not going to happen. He is pretty on the ball with the consoles as he used to work in the industry (last release he got the Xbox one free).

Thanks :), thats 1950 paid off debt :) what a buzz that was!

@Drawingaline they don’t need a 4K tv to run, it’s just better graphics if they do.  The pictures ive#33; when doing my research tend to confirm that as I was going to surprise him with one but thought better of it,  Our tv is 8yrs old and whilst it’s still decent it won’t be able to handle the graphics as well as a newer model,  I’ve been researching into the new xboxes and I’ve no issue with him having one as he does get use out of it, I just can’t justify the upgrade to the tv as well.

  • That’s my tsb card almost gone, just need to wait for the statement and then pay it off and close it down :) or I do an interest free for a year and clear the remainder of my next account to the credit card.  Something new to ponder on.  I won’t close the next account completely but I will reduce the limit as it’s actually 7.5k And I do not need that limit with one shop!
  • If next is gonna charge you interest and you can't clear it in your next payday then it's likely that the transfer fee will be less than the interest so I would go for it. Do the calaculations and see but I think its likely that will be the case

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, today was going so well.

so a couple of weeks ago I bought a barbell and weights well it got cancelled as they sold out, so I’ve been dithering on buying a branded weight bar and exercise set at almost £600.  Came close to pressing buy so many times but I didn’t in the end.  Spent £120 on another barbell set and some resistance bands today so feel pleased with myself about that.  Still can’t bring myself to press buy on the two Christmas presents I wanted to buy as again I’m thinking the cost is ouch.  Habits are changing :)

now onto the arghhhhhh.  So email not long received from his lordship, he’s applied for study leave and been given it but it’s unpaid study leave, so bye bye any wages for that time period.  He wants to go straight into study leave when he finally gets home from sea, but isn’t concerned about finances as day to day living we will just put on a credit card as we’ve paid off such a chunk.  Head meet brick wall.  Concussion anyone,  I might need to give myself one to be able to handle this situation!

I’ve asked him to speak to work about this mandatory leave buy back and find out what the situation is with regards to study leave and I’ve also asked him to reconsider and have this trip home and chill but do the expired courses he has to do and then do his next exam next time round and take study leave then if needed.

i don’t know what else to do, I know I’m having a bit of a spending blitz this month but now feel guilty for paying so much of the cards knowing he’s now got this in his head and is powering ahead with it.

  • I think you both need to be on the same page. At what point will he be happy and not want to do more courses? Something has to give. Your not saying he has to postpone it indefinitely but just until his next leave. You'll be in such a better place for it financially.
