Never mind oil!  would be good if there was a way to store a load of petrol, for sure it won't be 93p for long when the covid restriction start lifting.  If I were the anarchic sort I would be tempted to bury a septic tank in the garden, but the local garage might be a bit concerned with me filling my jerry can 10,000 times. Note this is not a real suggestion, its like a Trump one, I am just kidding, not for real!!!

Same here ive had the same oil in the lawnmower for 10 yrs, just check the level every spring. Helps being a low tec 150cc side valve. Will just dump when it breaks down. No drain plug anyway would mean turning it upside down.

oils and lubricants do deteriate over time which is why you should all ways change engine oil even if your car hasnt done the specified mileage. the container the oil is contained will generate condensation which then mixes with the oil. the container itself may have a use by date on it. if it hasnt then certianly if your storing the oil in your shed or garage, then no more than 12 months.
Rubbish. How does an unopened container suffer from condensation? Condensation relies on entry points.

If the next engine oil change is planned to take place within 12 months, there is no problem.

The shelf life of unopened engine oil is five years, but you can spend ten years depending on how you keep the engine oil.

Here's how to keep it well.
    1. Avoid direct sunlight.
    2. Avoid enclosed spaces at high temperatures.
    3. Avoid humid and salty areas.
For reference, oxidation reaction starts from the moment the engine oil is opened, and if the entrance is well sealed and stored, it can be used for about a year.
