Cancelled Credit Card still protected for purchases

I purchased flights for this June on my credit card last year. I have since swapped credit card providers to a 0% interest one. Earlier this month I cancelled my original credit card account with the provider and didn't even think about my flight purchase that I done on it last year! Now that it is cancelled have I lost any protection that I had on the purchase? Or am I still covered somehow as the purchase hasn't been fulfilled yet?
I cancelled the account approx 3 weeks ago so I'm wondering if there is possibly a way to reinstate the credit card account with the provider, or would this make no difference now?
