Argos Card Blocked

in Credit cards
Hello I have applied for Argos card online. I didn’t get the decision instantly but later card arrived in the post. When I tried to use the card it didn’t work, I gave them a call and they said I need to go to the store with id and proof of address and phone them from there which is not possible now. I don’t have any Argos store nearby and I’m not looking to shop in store. So I asked them to close my account, they said they won’t do it it will remain the way it is until I come to the store to confirm my details. I think this is disgraceful as now I have an Argos card on my credit file that I can’t use or close. Anyone could help what should I do ?

You don't have a Sainsbury's with an Argos in store near you? They are open.1

Whether it was an Argos card - a Bank card - or any other credit account - I imagine there’s likely not enough data in your credit file to substantiate your address hence they’ve asked you to bring in identification to ensure they are issuing the card to the right person. So they are taking all necessary precautions to ensure that your account is you - i would say that they were being proactive in keeping your financial record safe. They aren’t really asking for much - to go have an id check - it’ll take 5 minutes and you’ll only have to do it once, and then you’ll get the card you applied for. As soon as you make a credit application it’ll be on your credit file - it won’t go away - it’s a true record of activity whether the account is open or closed, so no matter what you say now, the record will
Be there for the next 6 years. It’ll look a little strange that you have an account that you closed immediately. What made you want the card - and then not want it now? Aside from the id check?1 -

If you are still in the cancellation period simply cut the card up and return it to them with proof of postage stating you are exercising your right to cancel. They then must remove all traces of you having the card from your credit files. Any credit search will remain though.
