Claiming back off a credit card company

in Credit cards
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me as I just can't get through to the banks!
Back in January last year (2019) we paid a deposit for a holiday on a credit card and immediately paid that balance off. Just before the pandemic kicked off we paid the remainder off on another credit card and I'm about to pay that balance off also.
What I'd like to know is that IF (for whatever reason) I need to claim the money back under section 75 of the consumer credit act, does it matter that the balance has been paid? Would they still refund the amount I paid? Could they turn around and say sorry, you've paid that card off now, we won't refund you?
I don't believe they would do this but the wife says they would so we haven't paid it off yet and I'm now incurring interest charges

The banks don't seem to understand what I'm asking (they think I'm asking about a repayment holiday). Any advice or answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Of course if can be refunded, it just puts your balance into negative and that can be requested to be paid into a current account or just be spent on the card as normal. People all over the world use credit cards to buy things and then pay the balance off every month or immediately after buying something, myself included
You need to give your wife a slap, she couldnt have been any more wrong.0 -

When Monarch went bust my credit card went into credit by a grand. I simply asked them to pay it into my bank.
With all due respect to your wife, her viewpoint is bonkers. People would be booking holidays 15 months in advance of them happening for thousands of pounds and incurring needless interest charges by only making minimum payments0
