Window shutters/blinds

On my daily walk around the streets where I live, I see houses with horizontal blinds or shutters, not sure which, up at their windows and they look very nice.
Thinking I might have the same could anyone who has these point out the pros and cons for me please. I do have one venetian blind in the house which is a bit of a pain to clean so I'm thinking are these going to be the same.

We don't have them but looked at buying a house that did. My observation is that it appears that you can't put much/anything on your windowsills.

They cut an awful lot of light out of the room.

I have day and night roller blinds. You can have them 'open' or 'closed' and they keep letting the light in.

We looked at getting some, as we have some awkward windows and a child who would most likely get tangled in the venetian blinds we first considered. Our main issue with them is that they're tremendously expensive compared to blinds. I do like the look of them though!1

They are, but you’ll look like a shop if you have them here.We have wooden plantation shutters and love them. Plenty of light let in (this was my big concern), can fully open them too, get lots of positive comments from passers by. We went diy route with diyshutters, they’re very, very easy to do yourself and all the uk suppliers just order them in and then fit them so might as well do it yourself unless you have complex windows3
