Old Style Daily Saturday 25 April 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Morning all
Its a bit overcast here atm but meant to brighten up later on, will see if OH and DD have any washing I am living in PJ's atm and I have a pair that need washing but seems silly to put them in on their own.
Got our click and collect yesterday which is fab not many subs, OH will go and get any bits my mum wants today as well.
Today is housework day so I shall sit and supervisewhile OH and DD clean through its not too bad more messy than anything with every one being at home.
Not sure about dinner tonight im still not really up to eating a big meal im picking as and when hungry last night I had a mini quiche tomatoes humorous and crisps and really enjoyed it, Im also enjoying the fruit and yogurt for breakfast.
The breast nurse phoned yesterday to see how I was getting on, she was pleased with my progress and I am now only on Paracetamol every four hours, I have to change the dressing on Monday which I am not looking forward to, and I have to keep these awful stockings on for ten days !! Never mind it will all be worth it.
Hope everyone is well xx13 -
Morning everyone
Gers - thanks for starting us off x
Cloudy start to the day and air is cooler.
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa and some fruit toast for brekkie. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was spag bol - I can't remember the last time I made this but it was delicious and no LO's. Tonight will be pizza/picky bits. I planned to make a cheesecake as we hadn't had one for ages, but haven't been able to get double cream and I need creme fraiche which I'm struggling to get also - will need to do a menu re-think if I can't get it.
Back to work for me on Monday - pleased to be going back if I'm honest.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks GERS. I hope you have an uneventful shopping trip and everything is in stock. If you spot any flour will you please send me a bag!!
I was MIA yesterday as I was on a real downer. After effects of the death of the young relative really got to me. She was the only auntie of the DGDs and it has hit eldest badly. She was their dad's sister and lived near him so they saw her regularly. DD was worrying about her bottling her feelings up and refusing to talk about it and I was worrying about both of them. In among phone calls to them I had the nurse from the surgery ringing me about my medication review which is due but, of course, not happening as things are. Asking me 101 questions about this, that and the other. I'm just glad she didn't ask me about alcohol consumption!!!
DS popped by with a few bits for me from Sainsbobs and we sat well apart in the back garden for a chat. I think it did me good and put my thoughts into perspective. Worries escalate when you are alone have no-one with you to discuss them with.
And I had a treat at teatime! The village pub has started doing their Friday night speciality of fish and chips as a take-away. They are the yummiest fish and chips ever! Pre-booking essential and a strict time slot issued to ensure safe distancing. DIL booked a slot on Monday for last night and only 2 slots left! They lived up to expectations and were just so good!
No sun at the minute and when I pegged out the washing earlier it felt a bit chilly but the sun is due late morning. So a few jobs lined up and then I will be out lapping it up again, A new book awaits "Felix the Railway Cat" which a DF bought me for my birthday,
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, sad, worried or lonely in these strange times. Take care all and stay safe xx

Morning all! Cooked yesterday. Massive quiche, crostata di mele, and I have to say my pastry is bloody lovely. The rest of the tart tatses very nice [go vanilla go!] but doesn't look half as elegant as ones you buy in shops and the yeast failed or I failed the yeast somehow so the bread is a brick....At least I don't have to cook for a couple of days now. I've upped the milk order because we seem to be flying through it. I've never really taken note of how long it lasts or how fast we use it before, I'd just go and get another one, but I hadn't realised we used quite so much. Maybe it's all the extra tea and coffee from being at home all the time.I haven't shopped so i can't work out a budget yet...Nothing to report here guvnor, all's quiet...Today I will be doing the seedling shuffle where some is moved to one place, some to another to make a tiny bit more space to put another couple in. I'll be glad when the frosts have gone. Have a good day all, remember you're not being deprived of company, you're storing up your hugs to unleash later....Shiny Saturday...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Morning all.
TA no wonder you feel down. You have had more than enough excuse for that. Do be very gentle with yourself and give yourself treats. If that includes alcohol so be it.
RR, you are doing really well and I can sympathise about the stockings. I bet they are really itchy by now.
taff, good luck with the toasted brick.
Here in the Sunny South it was a bit cloudy first thing, but the sun is struggling out now. I did my shop yesterday so have a choice of food today. Why does my mind keeps hovering around the Cornettos that seem to have leapt into my bag while I wasn't looking.
Other than that, apart from a bit of de-cluttering, my day is free and I intend to trip down to the village shop and buy a paper. Reading and doing all the puzzles should occupy me pleasantly for the rest of the day.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Billion dollar idea. A smoke detector that turns itself off when you yell, "I'm just cooking."I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
TA, I'm not surprised that you had a down day, but I'm glad it improved. I'd been thinking about the people like your relative who seem relatively ok and then they just collapse and wondering why. Then I read an article in the New York Times by a specialist which explained it. Apparently with normal pneumonia the lungs become less flexible and can't expel carbon dioxide so people become breathless very quickly. With Covid that doesn't happen, the lungs remain flexible and expel the carbon dioxide but they aren't able to take in oxygen and those levels fall but people don't notice until they are very low. He said that people arrive in hospital still able to use their mobiles but with levels so low that they need ventilating. I read it to Steve and he decided we should buy a pulseoximeter in case we do get it, then we can monitor oxygen levels. It's probably a total over reaction but he is so vulnerable that if he gets it we will need to know quickly if he needs hospital treatment.
Redruby, I'm glad you are progressing. Hopefully your surgeon did as neat a job as mine, my wound didn't look too bad at all and now it can hardly be seen, at my last mammogram the nurse didn't realise I'd had a lumpectomy until I told her.
Steve has been diligent with the food shopping slots, he's finding that early in he morning, rather than just after midnight is a good time to book them for Tesco. We have a delivery coming today, with a slot booked for Monday that we may cancel and then two slots for May so far. Even after lockdown finishes we will have to be very careful so I think we shall continue with the deliveries for the foreseeable future.
We've got our family zoom meeting today, SIL has really taken to zoom, she has meetings with her choir, church and bell-ringing group. She's very sociable, not a hermit like me so we worried about how she'd cope without being able to go to her activities. As well as choir, church and bell-ringing she helps at playgroups and is a volunteer at a local theatre, makes lunches for local pensioners (she is 72) and goes to the theatre and cinema every week normally, as well as taking the grandchildren to school. Luckily the i-pad has been her saviour and she seems to be just as busy as normal.13 -
Hi all
Usual Sat routine here. Asda have just delivered and all there bar of course flour even got some penne pasta and paracetamolCupboard stock pretty much as usual now so maybe things are finally returning to normal in the supermarkets.
Looks like another nice day here but need to do some essential jobs in the house will try for an hour out there later
Had a video chat with a few friends last night one of whom is American. She was so embarrassed about the train wreck that is her president. We are by no means perfect in dealing with this but very glad to be be here and not there. She was saying lots of local businesses in her area were now open including hairdressers a bikers bar and diner and bizarrely a tattoo artistA quick cut and blow ready for your wild night out at the pub and a late night tattoo to celebrate....good to see they are sticking with essentials!
Right off to sort some cupboard space out before my call with my age uk lady
Enjoy your day all

Morning fellow lockdowners ! The sun is already blazing away.I had a really slothful day yesterday so today I must do something, but I haven't decided what yet. I shall try to get going outside first as I want to take advantage of this good weather, I am surprised it has gone on this long. I have to sort out my fridge too, it looks like a load of monkeys have been having a party in there
Mr Fix It needs help updating his stores inventory, so that will be me shouting again and him typing. My outdoor library awaits too, DD expected to see loads of books on shelves outside, but it's just me and my Paperwhite
She did comment on how dark my tan was ( sorry Nels ) and then how grey my hair had gone
She lifted my spirits and shot me down in one sentence !
Right another coffee calls then I must do something....... get dressed first I suppose !TA sorry you have been feeling down. I don't think it's just because you live alone now, I think it's also because you are a caring Mum and Grandmother. ( and also a woman, we seem to worry more than men ) Look after yourself 'cos your girlies need your support and vice versa. Special hugs for you my friend.RedRuby sorry you have to keep those stockings on, at least they are not like Nora Batty's. Try not to wear yourself out supervising either and remember to put your feet up out of the way of the hooverSnoozer we're of the same mind regarding extended self imposed semi-lockdown, we won't be going into town to do shopping, we will also have it delivered for the foreseeable future.Take care, stay safe and hugs to allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Good morning, sun and cloud here. I did a fair amount in the garden yesterday and my back aches now so I'm going to have a nothing much day now.
TA I hope today is a bit better for you.
Am feeling a bit bleak so will hop off and do something useful like having a shower.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11
