Nationwide Select Credit Card

in Credit cards
Just after a bit of feedback from others who have this card.
I have had my Select credit card since they were first introduced, and it has always been my main credit card.
It has been used all over the world, and it has never let me down.
I do currently carry a back up, but as yet I have never had to use it, and would like to further thin down my wallet.
So, before I take the jump and start only carrying the one card, I was wondering, if any of the forum who also have this card, have ever experienced any problems or issues with it.
Thanks in advance.

I would never carry only one card. Never. Is it worth thinning from two to one? What impact will keeping the backup have?I was in Taiwan a few months ago, and ran out of cash - it took 3 cards to get one that actually dispensed emergency funds, although they all supposedly worked overseas. It was likely down to the ATM provider rather than the card - but I was glad to have more than one card that day.3

If you are travelling oversea's, then always take more than one card. Ideally one Visa, one Mastercard or Amex.
Just think what would you do if your card was stolen? Bad enough in the UK. But oversea's where many providers will not deliver unless it is a proper address. So no hotels etc.
Or like the other year when the Visa system had a meltdown.Life in the slow lane3 -
Second the above - I'd always carry a minimum of 2 x credit cards, preferably 1 Mastercard and 1 Visa - there were problems a while back (Mastercard?) which caused mayhem for some people. And (personally) 2 x debit cards also, incase I 'must' use a debit card and 1 doesn't work.
Although I can understand wanting to cut down your wallet, I'd always want a 2nd credit card as a minimum - what if Nationwide have system issues, cut your credit limit at short/no notice (even though you are a long term customer, they still can) or block your card for suspected/actual fraud whilst you're abroad etc.

Understand what you're saying folks, and yes, I always take a back up when travelling.
What I am after though is carrying less in my wallet on a day to day basis.
Although not a lot, there are currently half a dozen cards in my wallet, out of which, probably only 2 see regular use.0 -
I agree with everyone else - definitely carry at least 2 cards, in the UK and especially abroad.I carry 2 credit cards (primary and backup) and 2 debit cards (primary and backup).1

On your specific question, I've had the Select credit card for 7 years and have never had a problem on the limited number of times I have used it abroad or for online transactions that are not GBP.I've occasionally (maybe three times) had to wait for a text message asking me to confirm an online purchase before it would go through, but I consider that a good thing. It's my main card even though I have others and I consider it a solid product.I just wish they would list pending transactions in the app.

I repeat the advice from others to carry more than one card when abroad. I would also suggest that you explore cards with 'pin-sentry' devices or similar: in many parts of the world it costs money to receive a text message and personally I would always have fitted a local SIM.
For use in the UK: the rewards from using the right cards can be very significant in the longer term, and this card is far from being the most generous.

I have a Nationwide Select credit card and have had no issues at all. With regard to FX, I actually made £1.18 this week when my purchase for accommodation in Denmark was refunded at a more favourable rate than when I booked😂
Currently, trying to initiate a chargeback for a cancelled Ryanair flight, due to Ryanair's current attitude. How well they handle this is yet to be established.0 -
