Travel Insurance help please - StaySure being very unhelpful

Firstly I get this is a difficult time for everyone. But some companies stand out and others seem to stand down. Whats your take on this
- my folks are late 70s with medical issues. For Christmas we bought them a weeks cruise from Southampton for May 2020. They themselves then paid on 28th Dec £275 for a single trip policy from StaySure.
- FCO said no one should travel indef on March 12.
- Royal Caribbean cancelled their cruise on April 15
- We have rebooked them on the nearest to cruise on 7 May 2021
So my Dad called StaySure. They are not offering a refund on the single trip as past 14 days. They will not move it to May 2021 and say they need a new policy. I get their might be a slight premium increase to cover the extra time BUT the insured risk is surely the cruise itsself.
Reading around ti seems they have got a bad rep for being inflex about all of this where other companies are refunding in full single trip policies.
Anyone else had this? Got suggestions for better companies to use for their new trip.

Not many insurance companies will refund or do much in that case, as the insurance started the day you bought it.
Also doubt many are giving out money that don't have too with all the claims going on.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

The policy was active from the time it was bought, not from the date of departure. Your parents have been covered for cancellation due to illness, death etc. since 28th December.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

But there was no need for that cover as the trip was fully refundable up to final payment date which was 1 April. And staysure were well aware of that. Also bear in mind that Govt says no over 70s allowed out and FCO also prohibit travel.peachyprice said:The policy was active from the time it was bought, not from the date of departure. Also, seems different companies are doing different things. Aviva for instance are refunding all single trip.

So the counter to that would be, why did they take out cover on 28th December?disney_cjd said:

I'm afraid I agree with the previous posters, your parents have had cover for three months and if the terms of the policy don't allow for part refunds, that's it.
If Aviva are showing some flexibility, they would seem a good bet for the new policy.1 -
They took it out becuase StaySure said they should on the phone, They told Staysure they were covered for cancellations up until 30 days before sailing.Aylesbury_Duck said:

Sounds like possible mis-selling then, which is a whole other matter to pursue....1
