Halifax regular saver

If you mean the halifax regsave then yes they say it has to be a s/o and am funding it from a Santander current account - initially with a one off payment in fact I did a £1 to it as a start check and then £259 again as follow on check.(Sadly in Santander they have changed their S/O and I had to create the S/O from scratch - previously it was possible to set up an S/O from an existing payee. After that I've set a monthly standing order on the 1st I think that date gets the most interest days in each month. That said its was quite an odd one for me as I started on the 26th and fed it on the 26th but Hfx said that was my June payment!.lucazkoh said:Can the regular saver be funded directly by bank transfer from a current account from let’s say HSBC? Or must it be by a standing order? If so, does it have to be from a Halifax account as I can’t find a way to set up a standing order from the everyday saver account that came with the regular saver?1 -
Sorry Colsten, I meant 93, I had put 93 in the calculator and then somehow put 72 on screen. My excuse is I was rushing for the 8pm clap session. Thanks for all the great pointers to other accounts - we do have a couple of redundant accounts so we could transfer 1 across perhaps. You are right about Marcus and 1.05% but that doesnt hits wife a/c until end of August - we were lucky with extends on that account last year before they dropped the rates and then subsequently stopped them altogether.0

In Santander you can still set up a s/o from an existing payee:unwina said:

From the 'My Accounts & transactions' page (top level list of your accounts, first page after log in for me) to the right of the account number/balance, click the 'go to' drop down /set up a new payment/standing order/reg payment to another uk ac - and you get to the old s/o set up screen with 'look up an existing payee' option.

Wow, that's really helpful, hopefully they will not remove that in the near future although why they have to have the mickey mouse stuff just to cater for the mobile market is beyond me. Now i can go back to checking myself with an initial £1 item before committing to considerably larger sums.soulsaver said:

So in case anyone is interested I eventually realised that we could get 2% regsavers for both of us in our lloyds club accounts. They are similar to the Halifax ones (same company so to be expected) but if I had checked there first before I checked the Hfx we would have got 2.5% rather than the 2% Lloyds are offering now. All the rules are identical to the Hfx ones but as the feeder accounts for the wifes Marcus is a lloyds one it gives us an easier route for loading, it's still manual transfer from the Marcus to lloyds but automatic monthly S/O's from the lloyds account. The account is a better rate but not quite as generous as the Coventry $6000/500 rather they limit funding to max £4800 @ £400/mth. This recent foray does tell me is to always check all avenues before settling on any given product.
Thanks to all for their help and again a special thanks to Colsten for challenging me to check the online tool properly, I've copied that link into my monitoring spreadsheet for the future.2 -
I am really glad to hear you found a solution that works for you. I didn't mention the CL RS as it's got the same "must pay by 25th" hurdle as the Halifax one.
I had also assumed all along, probably wrongly, that you are aware of the Regular Saver thread. Sorry.1 -
Now you tell me, just skipped over there I daren't read it in case there is a better option, at least I could abandon the RS ones I already have if I thought it was worth it.
