Just for my own peace of mind I wanted to check my case was legitimate. (Although i know my old employer wont furlough me as they are not furloughing anyone. Hence just only asking if was within or outside the CJRS based on my perception that you could ask old employer to put you back on payroll). That way if old employer does decide to furlough other people i have some ground to ask if they could add me to the list.....
    Cheers
You don't have a "legitimate" case because legitimacy is irrelevant, and you have no "grounds" to ask your previous employer to furlough you. The rules state that it's at the employers discretion. It's at their prerogative to decide whether to furlough you or not. All you can do is beg.

My son left his employment on the 17th March to find another job, 23rd March lock down came into place and the job market dried up so  he is unable to find new job at present. He has asked the old employer to put him back on the books and furlough him, old employer has stated that he is unable to help because son left of his own free will and didn't have a new job placement to go to. Two questions, firstly is he correct, as we aren't sure, I know its down to old employers digression and we cant do anything about that if he doesn't want to but could he if he was a good guy? Secondly how do we check that he hasn't claimed furlough money for my son and hasn't passed it on?

We have asked the old employer to put him back on the books and furlough him, he wont he says his hands are tied, he says my sons predicament isn't due to Corona virus so he cant. Two questions, firstly is he just being awkward secondly how do we check that he hasn't claimed furlough money for my son and hasn't passed it on?

No, his former employer isn't being awkward. To furlough him he will need to be re-employed and doing this will cost his employer. There's been a lot of threads asking the same question and most employers will not re-employ them.

You can't check if he has claimed and not passed it on buy why would he? The government will be making checks.
