Non essential bus travel - Megabus won't refund

Hi all, I had booked buses through Megabus for the return from my sister's hen do on 10th May from Aviemore to Edinburgh/Glasgow. Obviously this is no longer happening but due to services still running in Scotland, albeit on a heavily reduced timetable, Megabus are not prepared to refund me unless the service is no longer running. They have offered me vouchers for the cost of travel but realistically I'm not going to use them as very rarely travel by bus. Additionally if I was to accept the vouchers I would need to refund the rest of the girls on the hen which would leave me quite a bit out of pocket (there are 11 of us travelling so over £120 has been spent on the tickets). I have asked a few times if there is the option to have a refund instead but they are standing quite firm. Is there anything I can do? I have travel insurance through my bank account but don't think that this would cover the full amount.

If you bought non-refundable tickets and the bus runs then they don't have to give you anything,
With the travel insurance I would think it's personal cover  so would just cover your one ticket ( but it;s a guess as not seen policy)
So the gamble is  take vouchers now  or see if the bus runs.

New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

I'd grab the vouchers. If the bus runs and you decide not to travel, they don't have to offer you anything.

The worst case is you don't use them and then you're each out of pocket by just £11.  It's not going to be worth claiming £11 on insurance.

Why would you have to refund the others money? If you get vouchers just pass the vouchers on to them as well. Not your fault they won’t refund cash, if they want to take it up with the company let them. If any of them still demand the money from you a pretty cheap way to get rid of a so called friend. 11 of you travelling is about £11 per person is it really worth the hassle?

Megabus offer a more flexible ticket option and a cheaper non-refundable one.  The choice is with the customer when they buy.

I suspect you picked the non-refundable one - which means (unless they cancel the service) it is non-refundable.  You can't have it both ways.

The voucher is a courtesy option - I would take it.  Each of your party could have the same credit voucher.
  • Would the voucher be transferrable so that when 'normality' resumes they could be sold ?

You need to check but I would have my doubts.
