Share Buying Platform/Route

Hi
Many years ago I was quite active buying/selling shares. At that time I used Interactive Investor. But I stopped trading years ago (luckily pre 2008)
My current knowledge of buying routes is zero but I'd like to purchase shares (maybe£10k) worth in a couple of ftse100 companies. The intention is to hold them for a couple of years and hope the situation we are currently in blows over and things return to normal. I know it's a gamble so I'm not looking for risk advice or better ways to invest the money. I'm just looking for a little advice on the cheapest route to buying and holding these shares without loads of unexpected costs. I wont be trading often so discounts for regular traders etc wont apply and I'm not bothered about holding certs.
Can anyone recomend a good service to use please?
