Since lockdown a friend has been doing shopping for her slightly dotty 88 year old MIL. Said friend has also been religiously participating in The Big Clap every week and has spoken of this to MIL on a few occasions.
Thursday morning MIL rang to request some shopping. A conversation ensues:
Friend: I'll drop your shopping off tonight at about 7.
MIL: no, I'll be eating my dinner then. Can you come at 8?
Friend: ok see you then... ..oh actually I can't. I need to be here so I can get in the Co-op before they shut. And also I've got The Clap.
MIL: oh Lord. That's not good! Who's given you that? Well, I hope it wasn't our Graham.

Reminds me of a conversation with Mum whilst on a driving holiday in Georgia, USA. Meandering down a quiet leafy back lane, passed by a wrought iron fence surrounding a pair of grave stones literally feet from the tarmac...Me: Oh look, a couple of graves. How odd to be so close to the kerb.Mum: Oooo.. Would they have been road kill ?Me: <blink>Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.3 -
I was just looking at our shopping list. The top three items under “Needed” are, I’m ashamed to say:
Balsamic Vinegar
Sea Salt
Tahina
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I'm assuming that Graham is the MIL's son. In which case, who on earth did she hope had given it to her??2

My late mum had a wonderful way with words. She once asked a waiter for a 'quickie' (quiche) and a shoe shop assistant if the pastel coloured deck shoes were 'multisexual' (unisex).1
