Cheapest way to transfer 200 euros to Austrian bank account?

Options
Hi,

I need to pay a 200 Euro deposit to a hotel in Austria by 10th Dec - what would the cheapest way of going about this?

Between my boyfriend and I, we have current accounts with:
Nationwide
HSBC
A&L
Halifax
Natwest

I've got all the hotel's bank details, but have no idea how to go about doing an international transfer - I've heard Nationwide charge £25, and I found on the A&L website that it's £16.

Is there any cheaper way of doing it, where the money goes straight to the recipients bank account, not e.g. a paypal account?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

I dont know if my answer will be of any use but i'll just post it anyways :)

I'm from Belgium and my bf is from the uk. To make an international transfer without any charges i needed the IBAN and BIC code from my bf's account. So i think if you can get hold of that information about the account you need to make the transfer to that that will solve your problem.

I make my transfers without losing a cent.

    Hope this helped you :)

    greetings,

HSBC charge £9 and you can send the money via their internet banking service as a 'WorldPay' payment.

To qualify for a world pay payment you will need the following information:
    • the full name of beneficiary
    • the name of their bank and the city or town of their branch
    • the national bank code (this is the equivalent of your branch sort code)
    • the beneficiary account number
Otherwise, would the hotel accept payment by credit or debit card? Even if you don't have a Nationwide or Post Office card, that might be cheaper..

  • Thanks for the replies! They apparently don't have the 'cardholder not present' facility on their credit card machine, so whilst we can pay the balance on credit card (I've got a Nationwide one so no charges :)) when we leave, the deposit has to be some sort of bank transfer.

HSBC seems to be the cheapest, so I'll try that on Monday.
